An hour before he's due to return to the surface after spending a month alone in an underground cavern (deep below the ruins of an ancient church), a 'scientist' flips out and runs about screaming. In response, his 'scientist' surface buddies decide to launch a rescue attempt and venture down into the caves to discover plastic skeletons, evil light bulbs, pet rats, a smoke machine, wobbly tombstones, 7 killer ghost/monk/spirits and eventually........ the doorway to hell itself.
If that sounds promising ye need yer ears syringed. Seriously. It sucks. All blame must lie in the fact that the budget wasn't large enough to buy a stamp to post a card locally, so all this turns out to be is a giggle inducing, limply paced run around screaming affair with infrequent, tho quite gory murder scenes. Very bad dubbing and 'duuuuh' dialogue aside, there's little to recommend here and probably one for the die hard Italian 'gore hounds' who'll watch and adore anything from the 'masters'. Including this subterranean stinker which is yet another rung slide down the quality ladder for Lenzi - a director not known for his comedies, but after seeing this, who knows.
High on fun and low on fright, Barbara Cupisti (The Church -89), Pietro Genuardi and Lorenzo Majnoni are just some of the trapped idiots. Blink and you'll miss Paul Mueller. AKA: Le Porte Dell' Inferno.

I sort of liked this "mess'
I actually saw this in Seattle at one of the small independent movie house there that show older films still. Seattle is a good city for movies, or it was 4 years ago when I was there last. For some reason I enjoyed the film and felt it was better than the other Fulci movies I have sampled. I am not a big fan of Italian horror or gallio (yellow/detective) films with some exceptions of course like Mario Bava.
I have not dropped by in a while. Sorry. Some of my Wordpress issues have been ironed out and some of them are better than ever. But lately I have had issues with the damned school here blocking the ports. Shoot! Really screws me up.
I have heard they may open them back up after some work is done, but I get the feeling they will not. I have read online that it is possible to get around all of this with proxies, but it does not look easy and there is never a guarantee with proxies. :(
I meant Lenzi, not Fulci
Oops... just sleepy right now.
